The AFL has just provided confirmation on a Channel 7 and FOXTEL broadcast TV rights deal worth $1.253 billion over the next five years (2012-2016).

In brief this entails:
- Online and Mobile rights to Telstra
- Free-to-air TV to broadcast a minimum of four games per round
- Pay TV provider FOXTEL to broadcast all Nine matches per round “LIVE”
- Free-to-air TV to broadcast Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon matches “LIVE”
- Free-to-air TV to broadcast Saturday afternoon matches subject to delayed coverage
- All AFL Finals matches to be broadcast “LIVE” in all parts of Australia.
- Free-to-air TV to broadcast four “LIVE”matches in NSW, the ACT and Queensland per round on 7Mate
- FOXTEL to reinstate a 24/7 dedicated AFL footy channel titled “Fox Sports AFL”

AFL Match Schedule Broken Down
Match 1: Friday night 7.50pm EST, 8.40pm EST when played in WA or SA
Match 2: Saturday afternoon, 1.45pm EST
Match 3: Saturday afternoon, 2.10pm EST
Match 4: Saturday twilight, 4.10pm – 5.40pm EST
Match 5: Saturday night, 7.10pm – 7.40pm EST
Match 6: Saturday night, 7.10pm – 7.40pm EST
Match 7: Sunday early, 1.10pm EST
Match 8: Sunday afternoon, 3.15pm EST
Match 9: Sunday twilight, 4.40pm EST

It has just been revealed that the free-to-air “Seven Network” and pay TV provider “FOXTEL” have secured the broadcasting rights for the 2012-2016 AFL seasons. Believed to be in excess of $1Billion, the record breaking deal witnessed both Seven and FOXTEL fight off rival bids from both the TEN and Nine networks.

AFL Broadcast Costs
Seven to pay $475 million for four matches per round
FOXTEL to pay $500 million for five matches per round
Telstra to pay $50-$100m for digital and mobile rights

AFL Broadcast Conditions
FOXTEL to simulcast Seven’s AFL games live (with respective advertising agreement)
FOXTEL to simulcast all AFL finals matches except the AFL Grand Final
Seven to broadcast the best AFL game on Friday nights and second best on Saturdays.
More AFL matches to be shown live (including Friday night AFL matches and away games)

More to be revealed in the next few days by AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou and Chairman Mike Fitzpatrick.
