NSW Battlers can’t afford to pay Electricity Bills

In New South Wales alone, more than 70,000 low income energy customers are receiving a $200 government rebate to assist with sky rocketing electricity bills.

Out of this figure, news.com.au are reporting that 14,000 energy customers can’t even afford to pay their electricity bills and are up to $1650 in debt. Even with the privatisation of the electricity retail network and hardship assistance, the number of struggling households is still on the rise.

Worse still, there doesn’t appear to be any relief on the horizon as battling household budgets face another hit of up to $20 a year on top of the 18% electricity increase back in July.
