Qualcomm to Debut Snapdragon 700 Series Chipset

Qualcomm, who is a chip and hardware manufacturer most notable for mobile phone chipsets, have announced that they will be releasing their first processor in the 700 series.

The Snapdragon 710 processor will be released through a wave of new mobile phones that are due out in the second half of this year. The chip is designed to beef up the processing power of budget-tier mobile phones and give them features that are also found on the premium phones. The 710 will basically be the "light" version of the Snapdragon 845, which is found on the LG G7, while being considerably better than the Snapdragon 660, which is commonly found in last years mobile phones.

The Snapdragon 710 chip does cut back on the speeds of the phone's CPU and GPU from the Snapdragon 845, in order to focus more power on the camera and video side of things. The 710 is capable of delivering AI to budget-phone's cameras, while also providing enough power for ultra high-quality video playback, while Qualcomm have promised it will further reduce battery consumption while playing games or watching videos.

As the technology in the premium mobile phones are constantly getting better, especially with the hardware of the cameras, it does make sense as to why Qualcomm would go down this path. Bringing better camera features to the cheaper mobile-phones alternatives could be very appealing to those who commonly take photos or videos, and not use much else.

While the pricing of the Snapdragon 710 could range between $300 and $900 USD, it will ultimately factor into the overall cost of the mobile phone. We will keep you updated as the phones containing this chip are announced, with their price points.
