Samsung Galaxy S10 to Get Three Models, 3D Face ID and FOD?

Three Galaxy S10 Models

As the second half of 2018 begins to ramp up towards the end of another year, Apple have been rumoured to be pulling out all of the stops with their highly-anticipated release(s) of their three new phones. Now, it seems that Samsung are also planning to release three new models of the upcoming Galaxy S10 device in the first half of next year.

In the same report by Electronic Times, it is also suggested that the new Galaxy S10 models will deliver new innovations to the smart phone industry, such as display fingerprint scanners as well as following Huawei's lead with the triple-rear cameras.

South Korea's The Bell via Pocketnow has reported that the first phone, codenamed 'Beyond 0' is rumoured to have a 5.8 inch display that is flat with a single front camera and two rear cameras and as such, will probably be the cheaper of the three. 'Beyond 1' will have a curved 5.8 inch screen and a triple-rear camera as the middle tier offering, and 'Beyond 2' is clearly the main flagship, with a 6.2 inch curved display and the dual-front cameras and triple-rear cameras, in addition to the display fingerprint.

It is no secret that Samsung have been disappointed with their sales figures for their recent flagship, the Galaxy S9, that has also seen the company's market share slide

If the rumours are true however, this will mark the first time that Samsung has split their Galaxy offering into three devices. Though the Galaxy S series began as one main product, 2015 saw the shift move to two offerings with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge right through to this year's recent offerings of the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. Perhaps the middle-tier 5.8 inch Galaxy S10 is the standard device, with the Galaxy S10 Plus being the 6.2 inch, triple-rear camera device, with the flat-screened 5.8 inch being the cheaper alternative to the S10.

Fingerprint-On-Display

As for the display fingerprint, it is better known as the Fingerprint-On-Display (FOD). This technology will allow users to press their finger onto the display screen for fingerprint-based mechanics and unlocks. An updated leak specifies that the 'Beyond 1' and 'Beyond 2' phones will get the FOD feature, whereas the budget 'Beyond 0' phone will have a fingerprint scanner on the side of the device.

3D Facial-Scanning

The Bell has also reported that the upcoming Galaxy S10 series will do away with the iris scanning technology, instead switching it for 3D facial-recognition. This rumour has arisen due to the fact that Samsung have not ordered any iris authentication technology for the Galaxy S10 according to the report, whereas their previous phones saw them place the order through their partner companies.

Until Samsung make a formal announcement about any of these rumours, this is definitely one to put into the "watch this space" basket.
