Nokia 6710 Navigator Video Review

Today, most people are finding it more of a necessity to own a GPS device in order to make travelling a little, or even a lot, less complicated. The Nokia 6710 Navigator is a mobile phone thats primary intention is to meet your navigational needs.

The Nokia 6710 is the third of its kind in the Nokia Navigator series, successor to the 6110 and the Nokia 6210 Navigator. You might have picked up on the giant leap in model numbering from 6210 to 6710; well the leap in the figures truly reflects the leap in technology and design between the 6710 and its predecessor (best mobile phone plans.)

The Nokia 6710 Navigator comes out sporting a larger screen, a much more capable and user friendly 5 megapixel auto-focus and LED flash camera, Wi-Fi support, the latest version of Ovi-Maps , and as well as a faster 600MHz ARM 11 processor.

Since the Nokia 6710 is primarily focused on navigation, the handset has been outfitted for car travel and comes with a clever car stand attachment, which enables you to station your Nokia 6710 Navigator in the best viewing position while driving,  it’s a great added bonus; but in our opinion to elevate the 6710 from good to great it would have been nice to have seen Nokia implement  a larger screen on the handset, the current 2.6 QVGA display looks minuscule when the phone is positioned on a car dashboard.

The Nokia 6710 is designed more for functionality as oppose to aesthetic appeal. Which isn’t a bad thing in our opinion, functionality and comfort should be at the forefront of a manufactures mind when in the design process, you want the design team to be kept in check there is no point creating an artistic marble that is simply unwieldy to handle.

The Navigator series is notorious for being a tad on the large size, and are not really known to be as glamorous as other Nokia phones, however, the Nokia 6710 Navigator is exceptionally well made and slightly smaller than its predecessors in all the right places. With a protruding chin to allow for better handling, and with the inclusion of a standard 3.5mm mini-jack, micro USB port, as well as a micro SD slot—both of which are protected by a small covering on the side, Nokia has advanced by leaps and bounds since the last incarnation of the Navigator.

2009 was somewhat plagued by camera phones that brought us to new staggering heights of picture resolutions with camera phones packing resolutions of up to 12 MP, but the vast majority ended up having stunted picture quality. On that note the Nokia 6710’s 5 megapixel camera was a pleasant surprise. It might not have the resolution capabilities of say a Sony Ericsson Satio but the picture quality of the Navigator was astounding. The captured images were bright, vivid and detailed. It’s been a very long time since we have come across a camera phone that is capable of capturing images to the same standard as the Nokia 6710.

The call quality on the Nokia 6710 is to the usually Nokia standard. The calls on both ends – receiving and sending are exceptionally good. Menu navigation is extremely easy and free flowing, if you have picked up any Nokia handset in the last 10 years you will  instantly familiar the layout and functionality.

The Nokia 6710 is a sound handset. It has a great selection of preloaded software and if you feel the need to expand there is always the OVI store. Hardware wise the 6710 comes packing a great GPS, WI-FI and a truly outstanding 5 megapixel camera. If you are after an alternative solution to your navigation needs, why not give the Nokia 6710 a go.
