Nokia N8 Mobile Phone Review

The Nokia N8 is changing the way users view Nokia mobile phones. Although Nokia’s N8 is not meant to compete with the iPhone 4, this Smartphone is the first of its kind, equipped with many bells and whistles that are practical, functional, and meant to organize and entertain. Incredible HD imaging, as well as Symbian^3 technology makes video playback compatible with many home theatres. Free navigation and on-demand TV are just some of the many exciting features available on this device.

The Nokia N8 is a sleek device, measuring 4.47x2.32x0.51 inches. Less than five ounces in weight, the N8 comes in anodized aluminium casing. Available colours include silver white, dark grey, orange, blue and green. Users can choose their preferred keying method with both a full keyboard, as well as an on-screen alphanumeric keyboard. Keys include menu, power, lock, volume and camera.

The Nokia N8 is all about personalization and organization. With 3 live home-screens, users can easily switch between screens allowing for personalization for anything from work, play, to favourite photo memories. High definition camera and video capabilities allow images to be captured in 720p resolution. In addition to high definition video capabilities, the Nokia N8 has a video editing feature, allowing users to add music, text, images and transitions to their videos. With compatible TVs, HD playback is possible, allowing the phone to connect with the user’s home theatre. An HDMI connection means that users can watch videos, display photos, and listen to music on their television or projector.

The Nokia N8 also has on-demand TV. Users can watch content like FOXTEL and many other on-demand channels, available at the Ovi Store. With Dolby Digital plus technology, movies and television will have premium sound, paired with premium picture quality. Premium sound quality makes the N8 good for listening to music. The Nokia N8 has 50 hours of music playback allowing users to organize their music collection, while also being able to view album artwork. While most Smartphone require users to pay for additional network usage and GPS, the Nokia N8 has an added bonus with free voice-guided navigation. Ovi Maps will guide users step-by-step where they need to go by car or on foot no matter their location.

Integrated social networking is just one of the many multimedia features available on the Nokia N8. One application pulls feeds from both Facebook and Twitter. Videos and photos can be shared on social networks from the moment they are captured. Facebook events that users want to remember can be added to the phone’s calendar. Facebook and Twitter updates can be programmed to appear on the phone’s home screen, making it easy to stay connected with friends. With constant upgrades and thousands of downloads available from the Ovi Store, the Nokia N8 is constantly improving.

A 12MP sensor with Carl Zeiss optics make for quality images on 3.5 inch Nokia N8 screen. Resolution is 16:9 nHD OLED with 16.7 million colors and a capacitive touch screen. A 16GB internal memory means that there is plenty of room for videos, photos and music; however the card slot is swappable for up to 32GB. A Xenon flash allows for clear pictures even in low light. The Nokia N8 also comes complete with orientation sensor, compass, proximity sensor, ambient light detector, and Bluetooth capability.

Conclusion

The Nokia N8 is a good choice for users wanting a Smartphone with excellent graphics and camera capabilities. Although Sybian^3 technology is still behind Android and iOS, the Nokia N8 is not meant to compete with Droid or the iPhone. Some reviewers have commented that battery life not being the best however, certain features are meant to work without compromising battery function. The HDMI port and USB on-the-go makes the Nokia N8 a Smartphone like no other and with few disadvantages, the Nokia N8 passes the test, making it a smart choice among Smartphones.
